The success of the .270 was undoubtedly partly due to fact that it has a combination of a flat trajectory and a very manageable recoil with the standard 130 grain bullet. At normal hunting ranges a well placed bullet from a .270 means instant death and many hunters prefer it for mountain hunting as respectable muzzle velocities and equivalent trajectories can be had from a 22” or even a 20” barrel.
